31 dead in Uganda by landslides

After landslides in Uganda have already been 31 deaths counted. Due to the high number of missing persons is to be presumed that the balance will continue to rise.

Persistent heavy rainfall brought Thursday rocks on the slide on a mountain in the neighbourhood of Mount Elgon, in the east of the country. Several villages were buried. In addition, it drowned many of the victims in the river Suume, which is out of its banks trad.

“The landslides happened higher on the mountain, but due to the heavy rain poured water mixed with earth and large stones down at full force,” says Wilson Wotira, the districtsvoorzitter of the affected Bududa.

‘All the houses within 100 metres of the river banks were swept away. Bridges, schools, trees, and livestock were swept away by the river.’
