Four days brings reportagemaker Paul Jambers exclusively for VTM NEWS has a revealing look at the local elections in Antwerp. For months, Paul and the campaign followed by Bart De Wever (N-VA), Kris Peeters (CD&V), Jinnih Beels (sp.(a), Wouter Van Besien (Groen), Philippe De Backer (Open Vld), Filip Dewinter (Vlaams belang) and Peter Mertens (PVDA). Seven heads of the parties that all things to the power in the City. Five of those seven leaders are also national leaders. The battle for the burgemeesterssjerp in the largest city of the country can, therefore, also in the national political consequences.
Antwerp is also a city where long political history is written. A laboratory where many political experiments have happened. But in the elections of 2018 is in that laboratory with dangerous, very explosive substances played. There is seldom in a campaign as much as mud is thrown, there are so many recriminations between the heads back and forth and there is so much on the man played. And in many of these incidents was Paul Jambers a privileged witness.
Paul not only captures, but sets in between, the movers and the shakers of the questions that many people have. So he is at home with Philippe De Backer as that morning in the newspaper that The Backer current mayor De Wever emotionally unfit to Antwerp to lead. Paul asks him if such a statement do not go too far. And Bart De Wever himself is confronted with his own election promises, and his statements about how drugs have penetrated on the Antwerp city council. The Weavers ‘War on Drugs’ really successful, want to Paul know.
Jambers follows Green-headpiece Wouter Van Besien as that campaigns in immigrant neighborhoods, and asks him if he is extra attention for ethnic minorities. Just as Kris Peeters, who is followed by the city on a local shared bike, to feel like real Acquisition to prove it.
