Freddy De Kerpel (70) Friday undecided celebrated in an exhibition match against the 28-year-younger Ismaïl ‘Cool’ Abdoul during the 22nd Ghent Boksgala. The Kerpel received after the camp, a golden boxing glove as a lifetime achievement award, in addition to a thunderous applause and standing ovation in a sold-out Topsporthal Vlaanderen.

During the 22nd Ghent Boksgala, among others, a Belgian title in the middleweight range between Kevin Ongenae and Kevin Vanderheyden on the program. This is in addition to a camp with as bet the Beneluxtitel at the weltergewichten with Meriton Karaxha and Steve Jamoye. But the real crowd puller was the confrontation between the former Belgian champions Freddy De Kerpel and Ismail Abdoul. Only with the rise of The Kerpel went the roof off, The Kerpel received a standing ovation.
The two of them started very offensive to the camp that the full four rounds of two minutes would take, though, Ismail Abdoul halfway through the last round against the canvas. After the camp flew the ex-boxers into each other’s arms and decided the referees that the match undecided ended. Domenico Adinolfi also came in the ring and honored The Kerpel. The Kerpel lost on april 19, 1975 in Wieze with a technical knock-out of Adinolfi during the European championship EBU in the light heavyweights.
“I keep a wonderful feel to this camp,” said Kerpel after the camp. “This was exhausting and certainly not a joke. Ismail Abdoul and I have a nice los all. I am so happy that I have been able to do. This was a very nice birthday gift. I should definitely Ismail Abdoul, in my eyes, a very large boxer, to thank that he is today, my opponent wanted to be. For the camp I was bloednerveus. Certainly with this large turnout, but all my expectations met. I am a very satisfied man,” decided The Kerpel.
