Star of ‘Baby Driver’ gets starring role in Steven spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’

Ansel Elgort, the lead actor in ‘Baby Driver’, will play the role of Tony jr. in Steven spielberg’s adaptation of the Broadwaymusical ‘West Side Story’. That message entertainmentmagazine Variety.

In the original Broadwaymusical from 1957 was the role played by Larry Kert. A year later, the piece, which is inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, filmed and awarded with an Oscar. In that film, Tony played by Richard Beymer.

The story revolves around Elgorts character Tony, who falls in love with the sister of a still. That last is embroiled in a fight with a rival gang, led by the best friend of Tony.

The project will shoot next summer out of the starting blocks.

For his starring role in ‘Baby Driver’ got Elgort a Golden Globe nomination, as well as for his role in the romantic drama ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ from 2014, on the side of Shailene Woodley.
