In Syria, on Sunday morning, the polling stations opened for the local elections. They are the first local elections since the war in 2011 the markets. It reports the official Syrian news agency Sana.
The polling started at 7 am local time open and the Syrians can have up to 19 hours to vote. In total, there are more than 40,000 candidates for 18.478 seats in the municipal councils.
According to Sana, many villages have changed in the municipalities and therefore there is a large increase of the number of seats in local councils and candidates.
