Croatia has placed itself for the final of the Davis Cup. Borna Coric (ATP 18) knocked on Sunday on the clay courts in Zadar Frances Tiafoe (ATP 40) in the fifth and decisive duel of the semi-finals after a bite your fingernails.
Coric had five sets and just over four hours to Tiafoe against the canvas elements. The match results were 6-7 (0/7), 6-1, 6-7 (11/13), 6-1 and 6-3.
Croatia led after the two enkelspelen on Friday with 2-0. Coric was dealing first with Steve Johnson (ATP 30), and Borna Cilic (ATP 6) Tiafoe beat. In the doubles on Saturday milderden Mike Bryan and Ryan Harrison against thuisspelers Ivan Dodig and Mate Pavic. Sunday brought Sam Querrey (ATP 61) with victory against Marin Cilic (ATP 6) for the equalizer. Coric drew later for the winning 3-2.
Croatia plays at the end of november for the title against defending champion France. ‘Les Bleus’ to put Spain in Lille on Saturday though after three duels on an impassable 3-0 deficit. Won last year in France for the tenth time the Davis Cup in the final, also in Lille, Belgium to defeat with 3-2.
Notable: the Davis Cup final is a re-make of the final of the soccer world cup, last summer in Russia. France then won with 4-2.
