Sixteen Iraqi parties form new front

BAGHDAD – Sixteen Iraqi political parties to form a new bloc in the parliament. The main parties in the new block are the party of prime minister Haider al-Abadi and his biggest challenger during the last elections, Moqtada al-Sadr.

The new block is the largest and most powerful in the Iraqi parliament with 174 members of parliament, thus it has a majority. The Iraqi parliament has 329 seats. According to the Iraqi state news agency, the parties in this block, the new government forms.

Prime minister Al-Abadi has the elections earlier this year, won after a recount because of fraud. At first it looked like the party of spiritual Al-Sadr to have won.
