Wallays colors the day but runs on American, Yates is the only favorite (a little) time takes mountain stage

Ben King (Dimension Data) has Tuesday the fourth stage in the Tour of Spain (WorldTour) to his name. After 161,4 km with start in Vélez-Malaga and finish on top at Alfacar Sierra de la Alfaguara (first category) was the American in a sprint with two faster than the Kazak Nikita Stalnov (Astana). The Frenchman Pierre Rolland (EF Education First) was at a short distance third. Jelle Wallays (Lotto Soudal) drove the first Belgian to sixth place.

Nine riders formed the breakaway of the day in the first real mountain stage. Our fellow countryman, Wallays got the company of the Dutchman Tree (LottoNL), the Frenchman Rolland, Luxemburger Gastauer (AG2R), the Spaniards Bagües (Euskadi), Maté (Cofidis) and Cabedo (Burgos), the Kazak Stalnov, and the American King. For Rolland and Maté, it was their third flight in a row. The nine rode a maximumvoorsprong of a small ten minutes at each other, and it was soon clear that there at the back of the peloton, little interest was them to pick back up.

Wallays went just before the final climb while in the attack with Stalnov and King. The West-Flemish could be vluchtgenoten, however, do not follow, and was then quickly voorbijgesneld by Rolland. Front ran Stalnov and King for the victory, the American showed himself to be the fastest. In the group of favourites reason Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) and Emanuel Buchmann (BORA-hansgrohe) are still away from leader Kwiatkowski. They are approaching so in the general classification, but the leader’s jersey stayed with Kwiatkowski.

Wednesday awaits the riders a lot of climbing in a stage of 188,7 km between Granada and Roquetas de Mar. The last eight kilometers are flat.
