HANOI – The Vietnamese minister of Foreign Affairs, the late U.s. senator John McCain praised highly. Pham Binh Minh wrote in a book of condolence at the U.s. embassy in Hanoi that McCain took the lead in the “healing the wounds of war.”

The minister thanked McCain for his role in the normalizing of the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam. The American sat there during the Vietnam war in the infamous Hoa Lo prison (“Hanoi Hilton”). He was in 1967, was taken captive after his plane was shot down. In the place of that crash is now a memorial, where the last few days, flowers are laid out.

In other countries it is sad responded to the death of the 81-year-old senator. The French president Emmanuel Macron has called the Republican “a real American hero, whose voice will be missed.” The British prime minister Theresa May stated that McCain is the embodiment of the ideal that “service is more important than self-interest.”
