8 years ago Laszlo Hanyecz bought the first physical Good via Bitcoin. With 10,000 Bitcoin – today $103.540.000 US Dollar value – he bought two pizzas.
Today, the history of the purchase, with the dominant cryptocurrency is repeated. Something, however, is different: Hanyecz want to order the pizzas using the new Lightning network.
Hanyecz documented this process in a message to the Lightning-Developer Mailing-list. It turned out quite fast, however, that the order was as easy as I thought. Due to the fact that (as yet) no local Pizza supplier Bitcoin via Lightning Network accepted, he had to send the order to a friend in London, said the Pizza-buying itself, and brought the Pizza Hanyecz.
“As far as I know, no Pizza/Bitcoin Atomic Swap Software,” said Hanyecz as he is the reason for the Pseudo-replication of the Original order declared.
Nevertheless, Hanyecz, “shows the transaction still, the basic concept of how this works for everyday transactions. It could also be that the Pizzeria accepts payment directly with your own Lightning to Node.“
The original BTC-for-Pizza-transaction took place on 22. In may 2010, and since then, the date is regarded as the legendary “Bitcoin Pizza Day”. In fact, there is even a Twitter Account with over 6,000 followers daily Tweets published to announce the price of the two pizzas, which has bought Hanyecz 8 years ago,.
The #Bitcoin pizza is worth $98,300,725 today. (+0.76% from yesterday)
— Bitcoin Pizza 🍕 (@bitcoin_pizza) February 26, 2018
Curiously, thanks to Bitcoins explosive price the same order of increase in the Hanyecz was full today with only 0.00649 BTC to be accomplished.
Did it work out?
The transaction between Hanyecz and the Pizza vendor was quite simple. Thus, the supplier was able to verify that it tatasächlich Hanyecz was who paid for the pizzas, you must compare the Hex string of the first 4 and last 4 digits of the Lightning transaction Hash Pre-Image. If the two combinations match, gets Hanyecz his pizzas.
The same logic Hanyecz would fail’s order, if he can’t show the supplier the transaction Hash Pre-Image if no payment took place.
Fortunately, the Experiment was a success, and Hanyecz got his pizzas.
