Only 26th on the world ranking, but Serena Williams’s 17th seed at the US Open

Serena Williams was Tuesday as the 17th seed labeled for the US Open, the fourth and last Grand Slam of the season. The 36-year-old American, six-time winner at Flushing Meadows, is only 26th in the world rankings, but the organisers kept account of her long absence. The former number one in the world gave birth to in september of a daughter.

In July also gave the organisers of Wimbledon Williams a better place on the main table. She was 25th seed, while she not even in the top hundred. It helped Williams to reach the final of the grasgrandslam to achieve. At Roland-Garros, the first Grand Slam, where Williams since her return participated, she wasn’t a seed. The Romanian Simona Halep is number one of the world’s first seed, followed by the Danish Caroline Wozniacki, the American titelverdedigster Sloane Stephens and German Angelique Kerber. Elise Mertens is the fifteenth seed.

The men’s world ranking closely followed. The Spaniard Rafael Nadal, that his title to defend, is the number one, Roger Federer, the Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and the German Alexander Zverev. The South-African Kevin Anderson, last year’s runner-up, fifth seed, just before the Serbian Novak Djokovic, toernooifavoriet after his victory in Cincinnati. David Goffin is tenth on the plaatsingslijst.
