Luke Dhonts feature debut “Girl” is on the shortlist for the European Film Awards. Also the Flemish co-production “Cobain” by Nanouk Leopold, is at the contenders. That has the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF) announced.

The European Film Awards since 1988, awarded annually by the European Film Academy and are the most important film prizes in Europe. The official nominations will be on Sunday, november 4, announced. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday 15 december in the Spanish Seville.

“Girl” was launched in world premiere in Cannes and clinched the Camera d’or for best first film way. The feature film debut of Lukas Dhont was also in the prizes at the festivals of Palic and Odessa.

The Flemish-Dutch-German co-production “Cobain” makes also a good chance on a nomination for the European Film Awards. “Cobain” is the sixth feature film by the Dutch filmmaker Nanouk Leopold. The Flemish co-producer is A Private View and one of the leading roles is played by Wim Opbrouck.

“Girl” and “Cobain” came into being with the support of the VAF/film fund of Flemish minister of Culture Sven Gatz.
