The Californian rock band The Eagles have Michael Jackson the first place jostled for the title of bestverkopend album of all time in the United States. The album ‘Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975’ sent ‘Thriller’, Jackson to second. This is reported by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Monday.
The album with the hits was recently certified with 38 times platinum, which equates to more than 38 million sales and streams since it was released in February 1976. ‘Thriller’, Jackson is now second, with 33 million sales and streams since its release in 1982. And the third place is re-by The Eagles busy with their second released album from 1976 – ‘Hotel California’ – of which more than 26 copies were sold.
The RIAA is a trade organization that for 60 years, deals with the issue of certifications on the basis of the number of sold albums, singles and relevant support media in the American music industry.
The Eagles were the best-selling American group of the seventies, and worldwide in more than 150 million albums sold. They were in 1998 included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and are currently on tour.
