The final stage, about 215,6 kilometers between Lacs de l’eau d’heure and Geraardsbergen, was a prey for the Australian Michael Matthews (Sunweb). He took it on the Vests for Greg Van Avermaet (BMC).
Early in the stage we got with our compatriots De Vreese (Astana), Rickaert (Sport Vlaanderen), Van Keirsbulck (Wanty) and Winter (WB Aqua Protect), the Dutch Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Reinders (Roompot) and Spain’s Irizar (Trek), seven escapees. Their maximumvoorsprong increased to four minutes, but the peloton kept control.
Van Keirsbulck held the longest full and was a 30 km run through the returned Rickaert, and new attacker Martens (LottoNL-Jumbo). In the background showed more Stybar (Quick-Step) and Campenaerts (Lotto Soudal) is active, but it was Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) during the last climb of the wall of the chapel, the group uiteenreet.
