MANAGUA – opposition groups in Nicaragua have Friday, president Daniel Ortega called to the negotiating table to return. When civil unrest in the Central American country, according to human rights organisations since april, about 450 people died as a result.
Mediation efforts by the catholic church are stranded. In an open letter, writes of the opposition, united in the Burgeralliantie for Justice and Peace, that the church, nevertheless, the new forums should lead and that foreign powers must join to the appointments to ensure. The alliance demands an end to the violence, the release of political prisoners and early elections.
This last seems to be excluded. Last month, said Ortega that elections only “instability would create insecurity, and things get worse.”
