ROME – The Vatican has with consternation responded to the messages about long-term and large-scale child abuse by catholic clergy in the United States.
This week revealed investigation authorities in Pennsylvania that more than 300 priests over the past seventy years, have trespassed on thousands of minors. This, according to the Vatican, only two words apply: “Shame and regret.”
Spokesman Greg Burke called the American scandal Thursday night “criminal and morally reprehensible.” The victims are robbed of their pride and faith. The church must be “hard lessons” to draw from her past. The offenders and those that misuse may have made, must be held accountable.
According to Burke, the pope on the side of the many victims. They have him the “highest priority.” The church will listen to them “to these tragic horrors, that the life of the innocent have ruined, to eradicate.”
