Roger Federer (ATP 2) has placed for the third round of the Masters 1.000 tournament in Cincinnati (5.669.360 dollar). He beat on the hard courts in the U.s. Ohio the German Peter Gojowczyk (ATP 47) with twice 6-4.
The 37-year-old Federer is playing in Cincinnati in his first tournament since he more than a month ago in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon as the defending champion lost to South African Kevin Anderson.
“I had a good feeling, had a wedstrijdplan,” said Federer afterwards. “Since Wimbledon, I feel better every day. The defeat against Anderson, I have a place is given, that page is turned.”
The Swiss plays in the eighth finals against the Argentinian Leonardo Mayer (ATP, 50).
Federer is all of seven times in the hall of fame of the Western & Southern Open. He won the tournament for the first time in 2005 and then in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
