The first round of the nominees for the World Soundtrack Awards this year, multiple Oscar-nominees and winners, topcomponisten of contemporary televisiemuziek but also a variety of popular muziekartiesten including Pullitzer Prize-winner Kendrick Lamar.

The nominees for ‘best film’ Academy Award winners John Williams and Alexandre Desplat and Academy Award-nominated Jóhann Jóhannsson, Jonny Greenwood and Carter Burwell. The nominees for ‘best televisiecomponist’ are a combination of emerging and more established names such as Volker Bertelmann, Ramin Part, Rupert Gregson-Williams, Mac Quayle and Adam Taylor.

Earlier it was announced that the ‘lifetime achievement award’ is awarded to Philippe Sarde (‘Tess’, ‘The Tenant’). During the World Soundtrack Awards there will also be a selection of the work of the composer of the brothers Coen Carter Burwell – (‘Fargo’, ‘Carol’) can be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic, under the direction of Film Fest Gent-music director Dirk Brossé and Carter Burwell himself.

Artistic director of Film Fest Gent Patrick Duynslaegher: “Among the nominees for ‘best composer of the year’, there is a special mention of application for the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who left us prematurely and is nominated for no less than five films. The nominations are a tribute to his talent and unique voice in film music.”
