The free festival Maanrock, that the last weekend of August on the calendar, turn in addition to musical highlights such as Warhaus, Kraantje Pappie and ‘t Hof van Commerce on culinary experience. Seven Tastemakers from the region get the opportunity to engage, each on a different square, in the spotlight cooking. Also the Luxury hotels participate in Maanrock by their customers a unique look behind the scenes of the festival has to offer.
From 24 to 26 August, no one can in Mechelen deny that Maanrock in the country. The city is three days immersed in a festival atmosphere, there is something for everyone in terms of music and performing arts. But this year, Maanrock go a step further and also focus on culinary delights. “At a festival is always eaten and drunk, but we aim this year is to achieve excellence in the culinary field. No plain burgers and greasy fries, but really tasty dishes, created by entrepreneurs from our region”, says mmMechelen Party chairman Kristof Calvo.
Culinary national coach Jo Nelissen, who is also the Belgian teams coaches who participate in the Bocuse D’or, was chairman of the jury that the Tastemakers have selected. “Festivals start becoming more and more good quality food to serve. For the chefs, it is a golden opportunity to a young audience. We have created a selection of regional entrepreneurs within a radius of 15 kilometers. We find the short regional supply chain is important and have quality at the forefront.”
The Seasonings are Jarheads, Cisse’s food truck, Laurence’s Focacceria, TØMMER, paella party, Jambalaya and L’Ouile.
Also the Luxury hotels want their guests the atmosphere of Maanrock let soak. They offer guests a unique look behind the scenes with a guided tour and some free drinks. “We provide a unique experience, and after a fun evening with a few drinks for a worry-free night’s sleep in our hotel,” concludes Björn Vandaele of Martin’s Patershof.
