MADRID – A reddingsschip with on board 87 migrants have arrived in Spain. The vessel Open Arms arrived Thursday morning in the southern port city of Algeciras (Andalusia), reports aid agency Proactiva. The migrants, among whom the twelve minors from Sudan and the Gambia, over a week ago rescued in Libya.
Spain opened the past few months repeatedly the ports for reddingsschepen of aid organizations that are themselves migrants from boats. Other Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Malta, are not waiting for such vessels. Migrants who will be intercepted by the Libyan coastguard, are often taken back to the North African country.
Ships of Proactiva have recently been two times in Spain moored. So arrived just last month, a ship with 60 migrants, who are transferred to Barcelona.
