BUENOS AIRES – The Argentine Senate has against a proposal voted that abortion under more circumstances had allowed. Thousands of supporters and opponents of the bill had during the sixteen-hour debate outside the parliament building gathered.
The proposal was to abort the pregnancy up to and including the fourteenth week legalized. The lower house of the Argentine parliament had already given the green light, but the Senate rejected the proposal, ultimately, with 38 against 31 votes.
Abortion is currently only permitted if the pregnancy is the result of rape or when the life of the mother is in danger.
Some supporters are not from the field store. “I’m still optimistic. The law is today not approved, but that will be tomorrow or the day after that, still be done”, says a 23-year-old woman. “This is not over yet.”
