“Jetset monk,’ 114 years in prison

BANGKOK – A former Thai monk, celebrated for his luxury lifestyle, is sentenced to a prison term of 114 years. A court in Bangkok ruled that Wirapol Sukphol was engaging in among others, fraud and money laundering.

Wirapol Sukphol is also prosecuted for other offences, such as child abuse.

Sukphol was already in 2013 from the monastic community. That happened after a video surfaced in which he in a privévliegtuig a stack of banknotes held. The man was additionally accused of having sex with an underage girl. The United States, the so-called ’jet-set monk’ last year.
