Mihaela Buzarnescu (WTA 24) Sunday in the final at the WTA-tournament in the U.s. San José (hard/799.000 dollars) won. It is the first WTA tour title for the 30-year-old Romanian.
The fifth seed continued Sunday in the final showdown, the 23-year-old Greek Maria Sakkari (WTA 49) easily aside in two sets. After 1 hour and 15 minutes was the final score 6-1 and 6-0 on the board. Sakkari made a whopping 34 says it all, unforced errors.
Buzarnescu, who, during her career, often with injuries suffered, is very happy with her first WTA title. “It shows that we are there no matter what happens in our lives – injuries or people who are not in us to believe and not think that we in the us have to re-high-level – play with self-confidence can get”, she responded.
The Romanian enlisted Saturday in the semi-finals, our compatriot Elise Mertens (WTA 15) in three sets (4-6, 6-3 and 6-1). The 22-year-old Limburg missed the chance for her sixth WTA final settlement. She won so far in the tournaments in Hobart (2017 and 2018), Lugano (2018) and Rabat (2018) and lost the final in Istanbul (2017).
