The award ceremony colored remarkably diverse. The Sabam Jongtheaterschrijfprijs goes to Luanda Casella for her solo ‘Short, or lying’, a sort of TED talk about the power of storytelling. Actor Florian Myjer and musical group Denali Wrench win residentietijd in the cultural centre of The Great Post in Ostend.
It was ten days very busy with Theatre by the Sea. That is also reflected in the figures. With 60,000 tickets sold (12% more than in 2017) and a seat occupancy rate of 90%, this was a record edition. The beautiful weather also made for a lot of extra people in the festival centre Café Courtyard in the Park.
Curator Barbara Raes built a program around rituals, such as the project ‘Sun-day child’, where each night a child of the sun opzong on the North sea . On the last day of TAZ was also the verdict in the ‘Trial of death’, with which the festival opened: the assize court said the death about the complete line is free.
