Octavia Spencer will play the leading role in a new Netflix series about Madam C. J. Walker, the first American woman to own strength is a million earned, and became an activist for the African-American community.
Madam C. J. Walker, who in 1867, was born as Sarah Breedlove, was at the beginning of the twentieth century, one of the first Americans who are hair products developed for African-American women. The company they founded grew into a successful company. Walker put some of the money that they earned in institutions which advocated the rights of African-Americans. She died in 1919.
The series is based on the book On Her Own Ground, written by the great-granddaughter of C. J. Walker, A’Leila Bundles, and get eight episodes. Madam C. J. Walker is produced by Octavia itself and basketball player LeBron James.
