Roglic wins last mountain stage in the Tour de France, Thomas has victory within reach

Primoz Roglic has the last mountain stage in the Tour de France won. The Slovenian of Team LottoNL-Jumbo drove in the last run away from the group of the favorites. Roglic pushes as Chris Froome from the top three. Yellow jersey Geraint Thomas was second, took some important bonificatieseconden within and the final victory within reach. In the time trial on Saturday, he’s allowed more than two minutes to admit on the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin.

The last mountain stage of the Tour of France was colored by a breakaway with first six, and later eighteen leaders. Including a fine pair of names: Jungels, Yates, Nieve and Alaphilippe. Who last used the flight as a springboard to his mountains to secure the top of the Tourmalet. He established, as also an impressive record by being the first rider in the history on four passes out of class as first above.

In the background – after about a ten kilometer course, though – there was still just a tiny green sweater. The battered Peter Sagan was from the outset to start chasing. Ultimately it would be the world champion of the meet, however, within the time limit.

That we could not, however, say of our fellow countryman Jelle Vanendert. The man of the Lotto-Soudal cycling can get lonely, and only as a last after stomach problems and would eventually find the towel to throw after he’s halfway through the race been a half-hour backlog had on the breakaway.

Team Sky creaks, but does not

On the Tourmalet made Zakarin, Landa and Bardet war. The trio rode away from the group of favourites and saw on the way Majka connect. Amador closed the gap with the front runners and the trio Landa-Majka-Bardet pulled it off. A moment later, would be a courageous Zakarin on his own, yet the crossing.

Towards the Col du Soulor burst, the violence is completely loose around the yellow jersey Geraint Thomas. Steven Kruiswijk was the first to run away chose, Tom Dumoulin was twice away to hit, and also Daniel Martin did his coin in the bag. Nairo Quintana, the day before yesterday still the winner of the ultra short climb, fell almost right away.

Geraint Thomas did, however, not metres, and when he still no reaction in the house, could he really rely on his initial team leader Chris Froome to Primoz Roglic to pick back up. And the 21-year-old Egan Bernal, who already made an impression at Team Sky. First brought the Colombian, Froome back when that a less time knew, then he went still as Kruiswijk neutralize.

Roglic pushes Froome not in top three

On the Col d’aubisque – one category – the group with the favorites. Only Rafal Majka, who with a small lead in his own reached the top, was still paramount. In the descent, however, went the Pole for the axe. We had eight leaders: Thomas, Froome, Dumoulin, Majka, Landa, Bardet, Martin, and Roglic. The Slovenian of Team LottoNL-Jumbo was the best descender and picked up a few seconds on the others, then.

It provides Roglic a third place in the overall standings, leaving Froome out of the top three falls. Thomas won the sprint for second place and picked up as important bonificatieseconden. He has the overall victory in the Tour, as well as within. In the individual time trial on Saturday, he’s allowed more than two minutes to admit on the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin for collateral to acquire about the yellow.
