Palestinian activist Tamimi on the way home

JERUSALEM – The Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi (17) and her mother Nariman has been released. The women are on their way to the West Bank, confirmed a spokesperson of the Israeli prison system.

Tamimi was for many Palestinians a heldenstatus after the incident outside her home in the village of Nabi Saleh, in the occupied West Bank. The teen and family members sought the confrontation with the military, then the girl one of the men in the face hit. The besieged soldiers responded calmly. Her mother made a video of the attack, which later was widely viewed and shared on the internet.

The authorities arrested Tamimi and her mother in the aftermath of the incident, at the end of last year. They sat for about eight months. The teenager in Arab media described it as a symbol for the resistance against the Israeli authorities. Critics say that the young girl makes propaganda.

Her father, Bassem Tamimi, told the newspaper Haaretz that a celebratory reception is planned in Nabi Saleh. Also would be Ahed of the plan in the coming days, several Palestinian cities to visit.
