Along with assistant Chris van der Weerden is the former coach of PSV is now two and a half week to work for his new players to get acquainted with his methods. “We notice that We are not always too fast to go”, says the new head coach of the Turkish football club.
There is in Switzerland a lot of journalistic interest for Phillip Cocu and his Fenerbahçe.
Cocu lost his second practice duel with Fener Lausanne-Sports (2-1), coincidentally an hour’s drive from the training camp that his old club PSV has invested in the Swiss Verbier. “The way of working at PSV, we also want to with Fenerbahçe deploy”, explained Cocu. “Only there for the necessary time. Among others, Chris and I are, of course, hard at work to make that happen, but we need to sometimes take the time. It is for the boys not always easy, because the are often very different exercises than they know. They need to get used to it. I don’t want to say that the previous procedure was wrong, but this is different.”
That Fenerbahçe is a huge club, Cocu has noticed. Also in Lausanne the audience is predominantly Turkish, fanatics do there after all to be a signature to score. “And there are a zillion newspapers daily are filled on this club,” says Cocu, who by the Turkish journalists almost continuously asked for the return of the last season, hired Vincent Janssen. So far know the Dutch coach is only sure of the arrival of NEC-attacker Ferdi Kadioglu, which fits into the long-term plans of Fenerbahçe.
“By things from the past, the club is also still tied to the Financial Fair Play rules, so we have to be creative,” explains Cocu. He must be from 7 or 8 August to really perform with the to success for aspiring Turkish club in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Ajax is one of the possible opponents, as the Amsterdammers the second round against Sturm Graz of survival. At Fener are a lot of Turkish players, and other well known names such as Martin Skrtel, Mathieu Valbuena and Roberto Soldado.
“At the beginning of August we should be there”, admits Cocu, who (tried and tested in football) completely itself. “Of course, we’re still not at the level where we ultimately want to go, but we have to have made. All I see in the matches so far at times back what we really want to see.”
