Not useful of Maxwell to the Rotterdam public, but ‘Amsterdam’ to continue to call. The R&B singer was Friday the honor to the North Sea Jazz festival to a resounding end to the high Nile, but came not even close.
Maxwell at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam
That he -just like the mc from Eminem that Thursday night did in Nijmegen – but in the ’Amsterdam’ continued to keep helped of course not. But it was really a big audience already dropped out. The immense Nile-hall was not even half-filled, while the all-day still press to have been here. Maxwell was given this honorable place after the failure of D’angelo. That had probably only been linkerpink what need to move to a bigger celebration to build than his R&B colleague did.
While at Maxwell seas of space was, were there other rooms just too small remained. There was soon a considerable line for hall Hudson, where the New York salsakoning Willie Colón the hips loose, played with his hot-blooded band. Worse was that at the Maas river, the regular sportpaleis Ahoy, the same thing happened to The Roots.
To this legendary ensemble was the most awaited Friday, but the group seemed to be what bored on the stage. The drummer of The Roots laughed a little, but pulled his face back rap in the same surly fold as frontman Tariq ‘Black Thought’ Trotter. Legends need not to laugh.
The contrast with Cory Henry, one of their ‘friends’ that sounds totally fake note came to play, was more on the ridiculous. Henry, who, as a malle behind his Hammond organ, funny faces was to pull out and The Roots that are deadly serious for their famous jazzy hip-hop played brought. And where other ‘friend’ Bilal stoned seemed like a shrimp and his eyes barely could keep up, kept the men of The Roots professional in to help. That Beyoncé, Elvis Costello, and Prince wanted to collaborate with this tight smiles of Philadelphia, that the NSJ-visitors so as yet known. Those who have the packed hall still could, at least.
Packed festival days
The crazy thing is that the festival with great performances by The O’Jays, Snarky Puppy and the Metropole Orchestra and the beautiful twin sisters Ideyi so energetically begun. Also at the beginning of the evening visitors had not a minute need be bored. The American bluesman Gary Clark Jr. excelled in the Meuse again in reliability. For Emeli Sandé, then in the Nile, gold more or less the same but than on her well-known soulpopterrein. And the 59-year-old bassist Marcus Miller, who as a youngster with Miles Davis work, left work to hear from his recently released album Laid back, which he diverse styles as R&B and trap to explore. It all sounded wonderfully funky, especially for fans of miller’s majestic slap-bass technique, this was yummy.
What is left after all this? Even two packed festival days to Ahoy of course. Today, however, a great closing party. The Nile is the disco evening with Nile Rodgers & Chic and then Earth, Wind & Fire. All NSJ-veterans, so here it is build. Further, it is to look forward to Gregory Porter, who is a Nat King Cole & Me show with the Metropole Orchestra. The great talent Leon Bridges is coming along, the remarkable old bluesbaas Robert Finley and also Jett Rebel is once again invited. For hiphopfans is Anderson .Paak there and at 22.30 hours in the Amazon room and even a concert venue that Jazz Loves Disney baptized. A seventeen-strong French company plays here the most beautiful classics from the famous animated films. Who is not big?
