BARI – Pope Francis Saturday called for greater efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East. The region is currently “obscured by clouds”, said the head of the catholic church on Saturday during an ecumenical meeting with religious leaders from the Middle East, in the Italian city of Bari.
The main problems he told, were “war, violence and destruction”, the occupation of certain areas, the large-scale fundamentalism and “forced migration.” Also he condemned “the murderous indifference” that the violence stirs up and leads to exodus of christians. “
The presence of our brothers and sisters (would) may disappear and the face of the region affect. A Middle East without christians is not the Middle East.”
