PHNOM PENH – The Cambodian authorities have 32 pregnant women were arrested. They are suspected of illegal surrogacy.

The authorities arrested five other people, including a Chinese, in raids in two apartments in Phnom Penh. Pregnant women are formally suspected of cross-border trafficking and are still in custody, says a spokesman of a court in the capital.

Cambodia was a popular destination for couples who have a surrogate mother sought. The authorities have the practice in 2016 in the ban, but the arrested women would not adhere to that ban have taken.
