GENT – Residents of the Belgian Ghent, contraceptives such as condoms and the morning-after pill be reimbursed to get by the municipality. Belgians, who are financially low on cash, it may here claim.
“If people do not have the means and no pregnancy want, it is important that they know where they can get help. That is a right for everyone, also for whom it is financially difficult,” says councillor Els Roegers (N-VA).
The Ghent council of the social WELFARE office, a social institution of the municipality of Ghent, has this week decided to the repayment of contraceptives to expand. Ghent women could already longer the contraceptive injection to obtain reimbursement, an injection four times per year needs to be taken.

“The choice lies with the woman or man himself,” says OCMW chair, Rudy Coddens (SP.A). “There is, of course, nothing is imposed. For example, it may be that a woman who already has three children and a fourth not, or a man who wants to be sterilized but do not have the resources for.”
The CPAS will no condoms to hand out, or people just money toestoppen. “No, it doesn’t work,” says Coddens. “People should discuss this with a social worker, or their doctor. Then must a request for reimbursement be submitted. Everything is negotiable, but there are approval procedures.”
