Ben Stiller is appointed as the ambassador of the UNHCR, the vluchtelingentak of the United Nations. That made the organization on Monday announced, at the end of the visit of the actor to a vluchtelingenopvang in Guatemala.
“With more than 68 million refugee people on earth, there is never a more convincing reason or a higher urgency to solidarity and support, to pay tribute to refugees”, said Ben in a press release from the organization. “The families that I am here in Guatemala have met, have more fear, and violence experienced than you can imagine. They are fragile and have huge ago. They need help. The UNHCR provides aid, protection and shelter.”
Ben goes with his ambassadorship in the footsteps of actresses Cate Blanchett and Kristin Davis, author Khaled Hosseini and model Alek Wek. Also princess Diana, Sophia Loren, and Angelina Jolie were once ambassador. Angelina was in 2012 as special envoy of the UNHCR.
