The Ostend museum Mu.The SEA has a completely new wing, which was dedicated to the film maker Raoul Servais. The Oostendenaar was this year at the age of 90. The wing is an addition to the Ensor and Spilliaert museum’s wing.
Raoul Servais is 90 years old and that is not going unseen past. He was recently honorary citizen of Ostend. His life and his work even more in the spotlight, devoting Mu.SEA a full wing on the animatiefilmmaker.
Servais is internationally renowned and has won twice the Golden Palm in Cannes in the seventies and also the Primo Premio at the Venice festival with his work Chromophobia in 1966. Original documents, drawings, and cellofaanprenten and of course movies will be on permanent display in the museum. The wing must also be a source of inspiration to form for young filmmakers.
At the same time, there will also be a temporary exhibition of drawings and prints by Léon Spilliaert under the name “The collection of the Royal Library Of Belgium”. The cultural services department of the City of Ostend worked for the composition of the expo together with the print room of the Royal Library of Belgium, and shows exceptional work for three months to the Venetian Galleries transfer. This exhibition runs until 30 september.
