Long prison sentences for leaders of Reef-protests

CASABLANCA – The leaders of the Moroccan protest movement in the northern Rifgebied on Tuesday sentenced to 20 years in prison. 48 other arrested protesters were given shorter prison sentences, reported in Moroccan media.

The detainees of the protest movement Hirak come from the Moroccan city of Al-Hoceima and nearby Imzouren. In that area was last year, large protests take place against the corruption of the state and the oppression of the population in the Rifgebied. Also Dutch with a Moroccan background have travelled to the area to protest.

The leader, Nasser Zafzafi, was at the end of may 2017 were arrested. The month was followed by even dozens of arrests.
