WTA Eastbourne – Mertens and Schuurs punches through to the quarter-finals

Elise Mertens has Tuesday, to the side of the Dutch Demi Schuurs, placed for the second round (quarterfinals) of the doubles at the WTA tournament of Eastbourne (grass/852.564 dollar).

The Belgian-Dutch duo counted after one and a half hours of tennis in two sets (6-2 and 7-6 (7/5)) with the Czech tandem Andrea Sestini Hlavackova/Barbora Strycova. In the last eight awaits a duel with the Ukrainian-Russian tandem Nadiya Kichenok/Ekaterina Makarova.

Mertens and Schuurs lost last Sunday-the dubbelfinale in Birmingham. The torque of the Low Countries won together three WTA dubbeltitels, in Guangzhou, China (2017), the Australian Hobart (2018), and two weeks ago in the Netherlands Rosmalen (2018).

Earlier in the day was Elise Mertens (WTA 15) in singles placing for the eighth-finals, after an easy victory against the Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova (WTA 57). Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 46) had to be defeated against the Russian Daria Kasatkina (WTA 14).
