Mark van Bommel follows Phillip Cocu as head coach of PSV.
That has the Eindhoven club Friday morning confirmed. Cocu was five seasons active as a head coach at the Locals, with whom he was three times champion of the Netherlands. Cocu goes to the Turkish Fenerbahçe.
The 41-year-old Van Bommel has agreed a three-year contract. The former midfielder was last season already a youth coach at PSV. He led the highest youth squad to the title.
“It all went very fast, but we are well prepared”, says general director Toon Gerbrands about the departure of Cocu. “We know that when you have successful people like Phillip in the house, it can happen that they with a communication as this. Therefore, we are already two years ago a journey with Mark started. He is ready for it.”
Van Bommel is at this moment still active on the world cup in Russia. The new head coach of PSV assists since Bert van Marwijk with the national team of Australia which, after two duels one point and still have a small chance of reaching the eighth-finals.
