Phillip Cocu can’t wait to get started in Fenerbahçe. The 47-year-old coach says that the talks with the Turkish club have him convinced to go to Istanbul to move.
“I must say that I am impressed by the plans the club has for the near future. Fenerbahçe is a great club with promising ideas,” says Cocu Friday in a first reaction on the website of Fenerbahçe.
By his move to Turkey comes after five years an end to the hoofdtrainerschap of Cocu at PSV. The coach led the Locals to three league titles and was three times awarded the Rinus Michels Award, the prize for best coach of the Premier league.
Cocu starts at Fenerbahçe in his first job abroad. The hundredfold international, which between 2008 and 2012, though assistant coach was with the Dutch national team, believes that the Turkish football club the right step in his career.
“It makes me proud to be a part go of such an important club,” says Cocu, who for three years has been drawn. “I look forward to having the players to work and can’t wait for this adventure to begin.”
