The introduction of the Video, Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Premier league by next season is on the rocks due to an impending shortage of videoarbiters, reports the Dutch fa (KNVB) on Thursday.
In march it was decided that the VAR as of 2018/2019 makes his debut in the Dutch league, but in the past few months were conversations about new terms and conditions for the referees spoke.
Breakpoint is that the videoarbiters a say like to in the recruitment policy by means of a minimum number of appointments. The KNVB wants that in their own hands by deciding on the basis of quality.
The football association is deliberating now on the other scenarios, although it remains the starting point of the bond at the start of the new season with the videoarbiter to work in the Premier league.
The videoscheidsrechter should the coming season be employed in 324 matches. It is going to be 306 matches in the Premier league, the final of the play-offs for promotion and relegation, semi finals and finals of the play-offs for European football, the Johan Cruijff Scale and all matches from the quarter finals in the cup.
Currently debuts the VAR at the world cup on a big international tournament after last year summer was trialled during the Confederations Cup.
At the world CHAMPIONSHIPS in Russia in the first round and the first matches of the second round all regularly made use of the videoarbiter. So, there were already five penalties awarded on the advice of the VAR.
On behalf of the Netherlands is Danny Makkelie as videoscheidsrechter active on the world cup. He is from Moscow assistant in each race that arbiter Björn Kuipers leads.
