GP of Belgium at least until 2021 on the F1 calendar

After the previous posts, now it’s official, the GP of Belgium and the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps at least to 2021 on the F1 calendar.

The current contract between the organizers of the GP of Belgium and the Formula 1 ran at the end of this season. So, it was again around the table sat the bosses of the Formula 1. In contrast to the past few years, there had to be this time not with Bernie Ecclestone, but with Liberty Media, the new owner of the Formula 1 to be negotiated.

“We are very pleased that we have reached agreement that ensures that the GP of Belgium three years longer on the F1 calendar,” said Chloe Targett-Adams, director of promoters and business relations at the F1.

The first GP of Belgium was in 1950, place on a circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, which was still about 14 miles long. For the sake of safety, the track was in 1983, limited to approximately the current form. It is one of the most popular circuits on the F1 calendar, both for the fans and the riders.

“The Formula 1 was born in Europe, and the sport should in the future stick to its roots while at the same time, worldwide expansion. Spa-Francorchamps is part of a great history. We are pleased that the new agreement is an improvement compared to the previous, both for the Formula 1, as well as our partner Spa Grand Prix. The fans that this event attendance will be an incredible experience.”

With the ‘improved’ contract, especially the Walloon government happy. Despite the rising ticket sales continued to Spa Grand Prix, as the organizer, the losses pile up, lose that for the sake of the ‘economic interest’ were matched by the Walloon government.
