Bacuna replaces the FC Groningen Premier League club Huddersfield

Juninho Bacuna replaces the FC Groningen for Huddersfield Town. The 20-year-old midfielder has for three years signed with the Premier League club.

It is not known how many Huddersfield pay for Bacuna, who have until mid-2019 was under contract in the Noordlease Stadium. He attended the youth academy of the club and made his debut in February 2015 in the main body. Last season he came up to 33 Premier league matches in which he once scored.

The international Young Orange is the third Dutchman in Huddersfield, which last season debuted in the Premier League, and thanks to three goals from Rajiv van La Parra as the sixteenth ended. Terence Kongolo was after the winter break rented from AS Monaco and was recently definitively annexed by the ‘Terriers’.

Trainer David Wagner calls Bacuna a “hungry player”. “Juninho has the aggression needed for a defensive midfielder, but his technical skills and dynamism also offensively strong, according to Wagner, at the announcement of the transfer.

Older brother

Bacuna goes with his transition in the footsteps of his six years older brother, Leandro Bacuna, who in the Premier League played at Aston Villa. Now he is at Championship club Reading under contract.

“This is a dream come true”, says says the youngest of the brothers Bacuna in a first reaction to his transfer. “The Premier League is perhaps the biggest league in the world, and the style here suits me. I think, therefore, that Huddersfield is a good step in my career.”

Bacuna is the fourth player that FC Groningen this summer leaves. The transfervrije Yoëll of Nieff and Kasper Larsen have none of the new club and Lars Veldwijk has signed for Sparta Rotterdam.
