The Antwerp museum Red Star Line, that the history of the migration talks, for three months close. Five years after it is opened, it is ready for an update.
The museum brings stories of migrants from Antwerp, the crossing to America made. It attracts those stories now, and tells how the immigrants fared.
Curator Bram Beelaert pulled with a filmmaker to the US for family of the migrants to find. They made recordings with four descendants. At the end of september the museum will re-open.
At the opening of the Red Star Line Museum in Antwerp’s Eilandje was expecting the museum director each year approximately 100,000 visitors. Those expectations were quickly surpassed. A year after opening the museum 200,000 visitors are counted.
