For the first time in ten years, the GP of France back on the F1 calendar. The belgian Stoffel Vandoorne is one of the few riders who has experience on the circuit of Paul Ricard.
It is from 2008 ago that France was still on the F1 calendar was, when it was still on the circuit of Magny-Cours. It is, however, at the circuit Paul Ricard that the French GP a comeback, a circuit that Stoffel Vandoorne has in the past.
“Even though it has the Formula 1, Paul Ricard long time not visited, I am actually one of the only riders on the grid that is on the circuit after it has been driven. I drove it during Pirelli tire testing in 2016. It was a really fun experience and I have also raced during my time in the Formula Renault,” looks Vandoorne ahead to the GP of France.
“It looks a great circuit that is seriously modernized. I think there’s great racing action will be. It is a technical circuit with a mix of pieces between high speed and low speed. Some curves such as Signes are extremely challenging and huge fun to take. There are also some pieces on which overtaking is definitely possible,” said Vandoorne.
Vandoorne looks greatly looking forward to Paul Ricard to race, not only because of the circuit but also because of the atmosphere and the fans.
“There will be a lot of fans to the circuit Paul Ricard come to this race for the very first time. There will also be all weekend, a special atmosphere. It will be nice to have a new city to visit and to see how our package performs on a new track. For us it is all unknown territory and I look forward to the challenge and the results of the past races behind us.”
Finally had Vandoorne also congratulations to his team-mate Alonso over the last weekend, the 24 hours of Le Mans won.
“My congratulations to Fernando his victory in Le Mans. I have spent the last hours at home, looked and hoped that by the end nothing dramatic would happen. I know that Fernando is tremendously prepared and it is also a well-deserved victory for the whole team.”
