ISTANBUL – Fenerbahçe has paved the way for the arrival of Phillip Cocu. The Turkish club made on Monday announced that coach Aykut Kocaman leaves. The 53-year-old Kocaman worked one year in the metropolis on the Bosporus.
The new chairman of Fenerbahçe, Ali Yildirim Koç, has Cocu at the top of his list as the new head coach. The Turks reported last week at PSV. The contract of Cocu, Eindhoven is still one year. “Fenerbahçe is to turn, as they must with PSV come true to obtain consent on an ongoing contract,” reported general director Toon Gerbrands Saturday.
Fenerbahçe finished last season as second in the Turkish league, three points behind fellow-townsman Galatasaray. The club enters the qualifying round of the Champions League.
