Arrests at protests against Gay Pride in Kiev

KIEV – The Ukrainian police Sunday 56 members of nationalist groups in Kiev, the capital arrested after fights. The fighting broke out just hours before the annual Gay Pride begins, please notify the police.

In the early morning, tried more than 150 far-right protesters to the route of the march through central Kiev to block. There is vomiting, small skirmishes when the police, the streets cleared.

The extreme right-wing group C14 said that the police have the protesters surrounded, and with sticks and tear gas attacked. “Look how they ‘sexual minorities’ protection and the rights of ordinary Kiev citizens violate”, wrote the group on Facebook.

The Gay Pride of Kiev was in 2015 disrupted by violent attacks, but in 2016 and 2017 was the march largely peaceful, thanks to the efforts of many police.

Last week sentenced a prominent human rights organisations, the authorities, however, due to inactivity of the Ukrainian police in response to increasing violence against ethnic minorities, women’s rights activists and lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals.
