Pinkpoppers should now be able to switch. This year, on the first day of the festival of the meezingpop of the BAND to the soft Snow Patrol and eventually the gitaargeweld of Pearl Jam.

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam at Pinkpop 2018.

That last, of course, was the great conclusion to day 1 of the started today the 49th edition of Pinkpop. The American grungerockers wrote history when frontman Eddie Vedder here in 1992 of a camera crane the audience jump. So crazy were the fifties, this time it’s not, but they gave a true musical masterclass.

Pearl Jam began with an intense Corduroy. Sublime run, run for especially gitaarfreaks. Lead guitarist Mike McCready would be much more distinct Friday night, including the always loaded Even flow, that both the growth and blossoming of the grunge reminds of this band.

No two performances are the same also in Pearl Jam, that this week two times already and promoted in the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome. The thick two-hour show contained the necessary numbers, where especially the specific fans happy. The mass started at the somewhat better-known Jeremy and the rock classic Black at the end.

So came an end to a particularly varied and first Pinkpop-day. A which Lil Small not laudable aftrapte on the big stage. The BAND did at the same stage after that, partly that there of the local people was expected to: sing and play when All is love, Here and, of course, Zoutelande. But it was not exactly the full hour party at the for this occasion just a bit too serious musical quartet. Have they ever been better, unfortunately.

The last that prior to Pearl Jam to the main stage to Landgraaf went to was Snow Patrol. The story is well known, less than seven years, they were the radar, mostly due to frontman Gary Lightbody’s excessive drinking. Back at the place where they ever the valves were played, however, they are not directly the stars of the sky. Not that this is the most explosive group ever was, but this performance lacked not only dynamism and pace, but often also the full conviction.

The ‘noordpodium’ this year has the catchy name IBA Parkstad Stage. The British pop singer Jess Glynne was the first that we saw. Her -or actually Clean Bandit’s – Rather be was lovely in the afternoon sun. They came to a hit or four, five to short to the attention the full hour, but horns and gospel-like background vocals of Glynne gave Pinkpop today a pleasant dose of soul. As The Offspring in that place for a dose of punk, and Blaudzun in Brightlands-tent the alternative level meritorious opkrikte.

Saturday moved Pinkpop festival continues with performances of, among others, Miss Montreal, Nothing But Thieves, The Script, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and the closing Foo Fighters
