The Mechelen festival Maanrock is at the end of this summer to the 22nd edition. The concept is now familiar: a lot of music in different styles, so that young and old something to their liking. In addition to a theatre square, and performances of Circus Ronaldo is this year, for the first time a Stilteplek open, where people can escape the festive hustle and bustle.
Maanrock is the valve of ‘The Summer Of Mechelen’, a series of free festivals and activities in and around Mechelen city centre. For the 22nd edition (24-26 August) builds on the familiar concept: music, both modern and classic, where visitors can let off steam, straatacts, dansinitiaties and theatrical performances.
Maanrock wants a three-day event for young and old. Nevertheless, the organization found that some people deliberately want to escape the hustle and bustle. Therefore, for the first time a Stilteplek created, in the garden of the Archbishop’s Palace. “We want the garden to be more open and at Maanrock is the ideal opportunity to enjoy the silence,” says Kristof Calvo, chairman of mmMechelen Party. There are Saturday and Sunday yoga sessions held by Studio Still of Eva Daeleman.”
Also new this year is the relocation of the Separate Stage of the butter market to the Cultuurplein. “On the butter market is an electronic shindig held that the name ‘The Courtyard’ idea,” says Calvo. “The free stage moves to the Cultuurplein.”
For the first time, there is also a place for stand-up comedy, where Bert Gabriëls will make sure of that.
“Maanrock is larger and Mechelser than ever”, concludes Calvo. “We all have Famous partners except one: Versuz On Tour. On Saturday will the Hasselt nightclub to ensure the realization of our Party Stage on the IJzerenleen. Our ‘cousins’-squares are expanded this year into hoofdpleinen giving up on eleven locations can enjoy a delicious Maanrock-weekend.”
