Murat Isik writes the Boekenweekessay 2019. The 84th national book week, next year march, carries the theme of The mother the woman. Earlier it was announced that Jan Siebelink the Boekenweekgeschenk is going to write.
The motto, to the eponymous poem by Martinus Nijhoff (1894-1953), the question arises whether these two identities are inextricably connected to each other. Isik is a subject dear to the heart, he says: “Not only because my own mother is an important woman in my life, but also because mothers play an essential role in my novels.” These are often mothers who, partly forced by circumstances, decide to emancipation struggle. That given he continues to develop in the essay.
The 41-year-old Isik debuted in 2012 with no Lost Ground. He has won several awards, including recently the Libris Literature Prize 2018 for the novel to Be invisible.
The Boekenbal is on Friday 22 march. With the illustrious festival is traditionally the national book week kicked off, which lasts until march 31.
