Today the climbers are put to the test during a 155-kilometre stage from Gstaad and Leukerbad. On the menu: a col of the first category in the initial phase and a double-climb, out of category and first category, with the arrival at the top.

Stuyven in the attack

There was already insanely fast but still pulled Jasper Stuyven in the attack, with Silvan Dillier, Daniel Oss, Willie Smith, Larry Warbasse and Paul Ourselin. The American champion Warbasse was the strongest in the front and pulled only in the attack on the penultimate climb of the day.

At the foot of the final climb was Warbasse, however, overtaken by Lilian Calmejane. In the peloton, defended BMC, however, the leader’s jersey of Stefan Küng and the Frenchman began to the climb with barely half a minute ahead.

Van Avermaet in the service of… Porte

Greg Van Avermaet dragged for kilometres at the head in the service of his team leaders: leader Stefan Küng, but also Richie Porte, who sat prepared to, if necessary, to take over the 24-year-old Swiss. At 7 kilometers from the summit was Calmejane nabbed and immediately we had also one attack after the other and then also Mikel Landa sharply then was the empire of geletruidrager Küng also.

Landa went solo in search of the victory but was killed in the final kilometer. Diego Ulissi won the sprint uphill. Mas was second and Slagter third. Bjorg Lambrecht (Lotto Soudal) was the best Belgian on a handsome tenth place.

Richie Porte is the new leader. He has in the standings, 20 seconds ahead of the Dutch Team Sunweb Wilco Kelderman and Sam Oomen.
