The Brazilian former striker Ronaldo, the British pop singer Robbie Williams and the Russian opera singer Aida Garifullina act Thursday at the opening ceremony of the soccer world cup in Moscow.

The opening ceremony will be a half-hour before the kick-off of the first match between Russia and Saudi Arabia to take place. “The openingsduel is always very symbolic”, says Ronaldo on the website of the FIFA.

“You realize that the moment you have four years of waiting have finally come. For the players and the fans is a great day.”

The now 41-year-old Brazilian made fifteen hits in nineteen world cup games. Only the German Miroslav Klose was with sixteen goals more reliably on a global final tournament.

“Nobody knows what the next four weeks is going to happen, but one thing is certain: it will be a memorable tournament,” says Ronaldo.

“Of course, is the opening ceremony, particularly for the host country. After all those years of hard work the world on a visit to the the love of football to celebrate. That feeling I had four years ago at the world cup in Brazil and now I am happy to see the excitement in Russia.”

The 44-year-old Williams feels honored by the invitation of the FIFA. “I’ve done a lot in my career, but the opening of the world cup take care with 80,000 fans in the stadium and millions of people for the television is really a dream come true.”

“We are inviting football and music fans from to party in Russia. For the people in the stadium and for the tv we want to be an unforgettable show take care of,” says Williams.

The opening match in the Luzhniki Stadium between Russia and Saudi Arabia starts on Thursday at 17.00 hours Dutch time.
